International exhibitions allow local companies to be acquainted with latest technology trends: El Gazayerli

The Chamber of Food Industries (CFI) at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) is working on developing electronic and technological solutions to upgrade the local sector.

Ashraf El Gazayerli, Chairperson of the CFI, said that 20 additional member companies have been rehabilitated, bringing the total number to 120 companies, in the fifth edition of the Ezdiharprogramme in cooperation with the German Development Agency (GIZ), and under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

He stressed that the CFI seeks to qualify companies operating in the sector to comply with international standards and laws, which would help them export to all world markets in cooperation with the National Food Safety Authority.

El Gazayerliadded that the Egyptian food industries sector proved its strength during the Coronavirus pandemic, and that it is based on strong pillars that qualify it for growth and competition in global markets.

The CFI has agreed with the GIZ to formulate a vision for the continuation and sustainability of technical support services, planning, resource development, and financing for local companies to access foreign markets, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

By the end of the seventh edition of Ezdiharprogramme, the total number of qualified companies will reach 200 by the middle of next year.

El Gazayerli stressed that the CFI's main goal is to raise the competitiveness of the food industry in Egypt in cooperation with all stakeholders as well as the National Food Safety Authority.

He added that both entities are working together in carrying out legislative and procedural reforms to overcome all the challenges facing food producers.

The unified food law will be the cornerstone for solving many problems that food industry investors face in the local market.Physical punishment for operating violations,in which there is no intention or damage to the consumer, is set to be abolished.

International exhibitions are very important as they allowlocal companies to assess their production capabilities, and be acquainted with the latest technology trends in the sector, as well as open new markets, El Gazayerli concluded.
