The Egyptian food industry sector is embarking on a new leap in the Anuga exhibition held in Germany from October 7th to 11th, to compete with its global counterparts and attract customers from around the world. Anuga is the largest specialized food exhibition in the world.

Workers in the food sector, including manufacturers, importers, and traders, are keen to participate in the exhibition to learn about the latest technology advancements in this strategic sector. The importance of this sector has been highlighted in light of successive crises, starting in 2020 with the spread of the coronavirus and its subsequent closures, followed by supply chain shortages and the Russian-Ukrainian war.

In recent years, Egyptian pioneers in the food industry have proven their high capabilities and the quality of their products, placing them among the major exporters of global food industries. The sector has managed to meet the needs of both the local and global markets for all products without any noticeable impact or shortage in the markets.

Egyptian companies have seized the opportunity of supply shortages in many countries and have raised the competitiveness of their products according to the highest global food standards. They have also made strenuous efforts to enhance their presence in many international markets and benefit from the agreements signed between Egypt and several regional and global economic blocs.

The combined efforts of all parties in the system have led to a leap in the exports of manufactured food products to reach $4.1 billion during the past year, representing about 13% of Egypt's non-petroleum exports. The sector's growth rates have continued to accelerate during the first eight months of the current year, reaching around $3.5 billion, achieving a growth rate of 13% compared to the same period last year. Thus, this value is the highest in the history of Egyptian food exports for the same period.

The successive leaps in Egyptian exports of manufactured food products have garnered the admiration of major international institutions and organizations, led by the United Nations' International Trade Centre (UN-ITC). Its latest reports indicated that Egyptian food exports ranked among the top nine in the world for exporting 13 food commodities in 2022.

Among these products, frozen strawberries and baking powder ranked first globally. Moreover, Egypt ranked fourth globally in the export of dried onions, seeds, and oilseeds, and fifth in the export of freshwater staccato.
